Mushroom masala is an Indian curry that is cooked with mushroom and other herbs and spices to give it a flavour. The recipe is quite simple to cook and delicious in taste.

Mushroom masala is like a restaurant kind of dish which tastes amazing with either roti or jeera rice.

For this mushroom masala recipe, you may use either white button mushroom or cremini mushrooms.

For Mushroom gravy 

  • 2 tbsp Oil
  • 1 tbsp ghee
  • cumin seeds – 1 tsp
  • 1 inch Ginger/ sliced
  • 3-4 Garlic cloves
  • 4 onions, sliced
  • ½ tsp Turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • 1 tsp Red chilli powder
  • 2 Tomatoes, chopped
  • 2 tbsp Curd, Beaten

For rinse the mushroom 

  • 250 gms Mushroom
  • ¼ cup Wheat flour
  •  For Mushroom fry
  • Oil – 1 tsp
  • 1 tsp Ghee
  •  Bay leaf
  • 1-inch Cinnamon stick
  • 1 clove
  • 4 Black peppercorn
  • Green cardamom – 1
  • 1 black cardamom
  • Onion, sliced – 1
  • 1 tsp red chilli powder
  • Salt to taste
  • A pinch of Kasuri methi
  • 3-4 coriander spring

For garnish

  • 2-3 Coriander sprig

    1. We will start by cleaning the mushrooms.
    2. Cleaning mushrooms is quite easy but can be time-consuming.
    3. Take each mushroom and thoroughly apply wheat flour to it and clean them properly.
    4. If you wish to jump this step, you can simply clean it with water, like other veggies.
    5. Now, take a kadhai and add oil, ghee, cumin seeds, ginger slice, garlic clove, and onion and saute well.
    6. Next, add turmeric powder, coriander powder, red chilli powder, and mix well.
    7. Then add tomato, and saute properly.
    8. Add salt according to your taste and curd.
    9. Let it cook till the tomatoes become soft and squishy; add water as required.
    10. Blend the mixture in a blender and keep it aside.
    11. In a pan, heat oil, ghee and add bay leaf, cinnamon stick, cloves, black peppercorn, green cardamom, black cardamom and saute them properly.
    12. Add chopped onions and saute them till they turn translucent, then add red chilli powder, cleaned mushroom, salt according to your taste and water and saute properly.
    13. Add the mushroom gravy in it and cook for a minute or two.
    14. Sprinkle Kasuri methi, and garnish with coriander spring.

Serve the mouthwatering mushroom masala hot with rice or roti.
