Did someone say snack? Cause I heard samosa. No snack is complete without samosa and that is the fact of Indian culture, I guess. And it is cherry on the top when it is Punjabi samosa.

Samosa is one of those snacks which is not only loved by the kids but also by the adults. It is a fried pastry which has a filling of mostly potatoes. Although, some households prefer to use raw bananas instead of potatoes. So make the homemade samosa with this quick samosa recipe.

It is not a compulsion to have fired samosa you may also bake your samosa which is preferred by people who are really health conscious. One samosa can have up to 207 calories.

Ingredients

Samosa

For Dough

  • 1 cup Maida
  • Salt
  • ½ tsp Carom seeds
  • 2 tbsp Ghee
  • water
  • For Samosa Masala
  • 1 tbsp Coriander seeds
  • 1 tbsp Fennel seeds
  • ½ tbsp Cumin seeds

For Samosa Filling

  • 1 tbsp Ghee
  • 1 inch Ginger, chopped
  • 2 fresh green chilies, chopped
  • 1 tsp Turmeric powder
  • ½ tsp red chili powder
  • ¼ tsp Asafoetida
  • Potatoes, boiled & slightly mashed
  • ¼ cup Green peas
  • 1 ½ tbsp Prepared Masala
  •  ½ tsp Black pepper powder
  •  1 tsp Dry Mango powder
  •  Salt

For Dough

  1. Take a bow and add maida, salt, carom seeds, ghee, and mix everything properly until it resembles bread crumb consistency.
  2. Now add cold water and knead a hard dough.
  3. Cover and keep for resting at least for 15-20 minutes.

For Samosa Masala 

  1. In a pan add coriander seeds, cumin seeds, fennel seeds and roast them lightly.
  2. Now, put them into a motor-pastel and crush them coarsely.
  3. For Samosa Filling
  4. In a pan add ghee, ginger, garlic, green chilies and saute for a minute.
  5. Now add turmeric powder, red chili powder, asafoetida, potatoes, green peas and mash it coarsely.
  6. Cover and cook for 4-5 minutes on medium heat.
  7. Now remove the cover and cook on high flames for about  3-4 minutes.
  8. Add the prepared masala, black pepper powder, dry mango powder, salt, and mix everything properly.

 For Assembling Samosa

  1. Take a medium portion of the dough, and roll it thin in an oval shape.
  2. Now cut in from the center and take one half of it and make a cone shape of it and add the filling in it.
  3. Next, apply water on the open ends of the cone and fold it towards you, keep it down and give it a gentle press so that it can stand.
  4. Heat oil in a kadhai on medium heat and fry the samosas in it until golden brown from all sides, remove on an absorbent paper.

Your mouthwatering samosa for evening snacks is ready. Serve hot with ketchup or imli ki chutney. You might also try it with curd with a hint of imli ki chutney on it.
