  • 1 cup chana dal/ split black gram, soaked
  • 2 green chillies
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2-inch ginger
  • 4-6 garlic cloves
  • ¼ cup coriander leaves
  • 2-inch cinnamons stick
  • 1 twig curry leaves
  • 10-12 black peppercorns
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 2 tbsp rice flour

• ½ tsp garam masala powder

  1. In a mixer grinder, add cumin seeds, cinnamon stick, and black peppercorns, grind it.
  2. Now add green chillies, ginger, garlic cloves, chana dal, and curry leaves. Coarsely grind it.
  3. Transfer it into a bowl and add chopped onion, coriander leaves, garam masala powder, salt to taste and rice flour.
  4. Mix everything well and add 2 tbsp warm oil and mix it again.
  5. Now take a small portion of the mixture and shape it into a vada.
  6. Press it slightly and smoothen the edges.
  7. Make rest of the vadas with the remaining mixture and follow the same process.
  8. Take a Kadai and heat oil on medium-high flame.
  9. Now add prepared vada and fry it on medium-high flame.
  10. Keep flipping in between and fry it until golden brown.
  11. Remove it and transfer it on an absorbent paper.
  12. Place it into a nice platter. The masala vada is ready to serve.
