Corn Chaat Recipe

During the evening, everyone wishes to eat some healthy and tasty snack, which is full of flavor and spices, and chaat is one of those snacks. Chaat is a spicy and tangy snack, originated in India and served at roadside tracks from stalls or food carts. It has its origins in Uttar Pradesh, India, and has become popular in the Indian subcontinent.

The Agra city is very famous for its chaat and Mumbai’s Chowpatty beach is also famous for its chaat. Today’s special is the corn chaat recipe but before moving forward, let’s know the varieties of chaats in India.

Aloo chaat, Dahi puri chaat, Chana chaat, bhelpuri, Sev puri, papdi chaat, Beetroot & potato chaat, Basket chaat and corn chaat are some of its variants. The corn chaat is made with corn on the cob, especially with sweet corn. Most people, prefer to eat it during the rainy season.

It can be cooked by boiling, grilling, roasting and frying method. This chaat is healthy because it has a lot of veggies and spices. Corns is a good probiotic and contains complex carbohydrates. Make the corn chaat at home with this corn chaat recipe.

Corn On The Cob

Ingredients

  • 3 corn on the cob, break in half
  • 3 dry red chillies
  • 1-inch ginger
  • 4-5 coriander roots
  • 1-inch cinnamon stick
  • 1 black cardamom
  • ½ tsp black peppercorns
  • ½ tsp coriander seeds
  • ¼ tsp sugar
  • 1 heaped tbsp butter
  • Salt to taste

Method

  1. In a pressure cooker, add water, dry red chilies, ginger, coriander roots, black cardamom, cinnamon, black peppercorns and coriander seeds, salt, sugar, butter, and corn on the cob.
  2. Now cover the lid of the pressure cooker and give it 1-2 whistles.
  3. Turn off the flame, let it cool.
  4. Remove and keep aside for future use.

South Indian Style Corn Chaat

Ingredients:

For Gun Powder

  • 1 tsp oil1/2 cumin seeds
  • 1 tsp coriander seeds
  • 3-4 dry red chillies
  • 1 tbsp chana dal
  • 1 twig curry leaves
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 tbsp urad dal

Other Ingredients

  • 1 corn on the cob
  • ¼ cup chopped coconut
  • 1 twig of curry leaves, chopped
  • 2-3 tbsp remaining water from the corn

Method

For Gun Powder

  • Take a pan, add oil, add some cumin seeds, coriander seeds, dry red chilies, chana dal, urad dal, curry leaves, and roast until golden brown.
  • Add salt and mix it well
  • Let it cool down a bit and add it to the blender jar, blend into a powder.
  • Keep aside for future use.

To prepare

  • Remove corn kernels from the cob and keep them aside for future use.
  • In a pan, add corn kernels, coconut, curry leaves, some remaining water from the corn, butter, gun powder.
  • Toss it properly and transfer it to a bowl.

Italian Style Corn Chaat

Dry Red Chilli

Ingredients

  • 2-3 tbsp remaining water from the corn
  •  1/2 tsp dried oregano
  • 1 heaped tbsp butter
  • ½ tsp chilli flakes
  •  1 corn on the cob
  • ½ tsp freshly ground black pepper
  • ¼ cup grated cheese

Method

1. Remove corn kernels from the cob and keep them aside for future use.

2. Heat a pan and add remaining water from the corn, corn kernels, butter, chilli flakes, dried and fresh oregano, ground black pepper.

3. Sauté it and transfer it into a bowl.

4.Garnish with some grated cheese.

Ingredients

  • 1 corn on the cob
  • ½ medium onion, chopped
  • 1 medium tomato, chopped, deseeded
  • 1-2 green chillies, chopped
  • 2 tbsp coriander leaves, chopped
  • ¼ tsp black salt
  • ½ tsp chaat masala
  • ½ tsp olive oil or salad oil

Method

  1. Remove corn kernels from the cob and keep them aside for future use.
  2. In a mixing bowl add corn kernels, onion, tomato, green chillies, coriander leaves, black salt, chaat masala, olive oil or salad oil.
  3. Mix everything properly.
  4. Serve it in a bowl and garnish it with some coriander leaves.

So the 3 different corn chat is ready to serve. Serve it with soup, or you can also use it as a salsa salad dressing.
