Dal dhokli, also known as dal ki Dulhan or dal ka dulha, is a Rajasthani, Gujarati, and Maharashtrian dish that is not only healthy but very tasty. It is cooked by either cutting the dough in a triangular or circular shape.

If you are not fond of Dal, this amazing recipe will make you fall in love with dal. The best thing about it is that it is a one-pot dish which does not need rice or roti or any veggie to complete it. It is a perfect meal for a tiring day. Make this dish at home with this quick dal dhokli recipe.

Ingredients For Making Dal Dhokli

For Dal 

  • 1 cup Toor Dal, soaked
  • 1 heaped tbsp Ghee
  • Salt to taste
  • ½ tsp Turmeric Powder
  • ¼ tsp Red Chilli Powder
  • 1 Bay Leaf
  • 2-3 Kokum
  • 1 tbsp Jaggery

For Dhokli 

  • 1 cup Whole Wheat Flour
  • 1 tbsp Gram Flour
  • ½ tsp Turmeric Powder
  • ½ tsp Red Chilli Powder
  • ¼ tsp Asafoetida
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 tbsp Oil
  • Water

For Tempering

  • 2 tbsp Ghee
  • 1 tsp Mustard Seeds
  • ¼ tsp Fenugreek Seeds
  • 1 sprig Curry Leaves
  • 5-6 Dry Red Chillies
  • 2 Cloves
  • 1-inch Cinnamon Stick
  • ¼ tsp Asafoetida
  • ½ tsp Red Chilli Powder

For Dhokli 

  1. Mix whole wheat flour, gram flour, turmeric powder, red chilli powder, asafoetida, salt, oil, water, and knead it into a soft dough.
  2. Keep aside for 5-10 minutes.
  3. Take out a little portion of the dough and roll it into a roti, and half cook it on a flat pan. And then cut it in a diamond shape; you may also make it into a round shape like a coin.
  4. Put it aside.

For Tempering 

  1. Take a pan, add ghee, mustard seeds, fenugreek seeds, curry leaves, dry red chilli, cloves, cinnamon stick, asafoetida, red chilli powder, and sauté it for a minute or two.

For Dal 

  1. Take a Kadhai, and add toor dal, ghee, salt, turmeric powder, red chilli powder, bay leaf, and mix everything properly.
  2. Now, cover it and cook on medium heat for about 20-25 mins or until it goes soft.
  3. Next, add the cut roti into it and also add kokum, jaggery to it.
  4. Let it boil for almost 8-10 minutes.
  5. Then pour the tempering over it and boil it for a minute.

Serve hot. For making it taste even better, add a tablespoon of ghee and lemon to it.
