Ingredients

For Gatte Chunks

  • 200 gm Gram Flour
  • 1 tbsp oil
  • 2 tbsp curd
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 pinch of soda
  • 1/4 tsp red chili powder
  • salt to taste
  • 1/4 tsp carom seeds
  • Water as required

For Gravy

  • 3-4 medium tomatoes, chopped
  • 2 green chilies, chopped
  • 1/2 cup curd, whisked
  • 2-3 tbsp oil
  • 1 tsp Kasuri methi
  • A pinch of asafoetida
  • 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 coriander powder
  • 1/4 tsp red chili powder
  • salt to taste
  • 1 garam masala
  • 2-3 tbsp fresh coriander leaves, finely chopped

For Gatte Chunks

  1. For making gutta chunks take a large bowl, add gram flour, salt, carom seeds, baking soda, red chilli powder, turmeric powder, oil, and curd. Mix everything well.
  2. Now add little water in intervals and knead soft dough. Cover the gatte chunks of dough and let it rest for 10-15 mins.
  3. After 10 mins, grease your palm with some oil and knead the dough once again.
  4. Apply some more oil on your palms and divide the dough into small portions.
  5. Now roll these dough pieces in 1/2 inch diameter and 3-4 inch long logs.
  6. Place it into a platter and make logs from the rest dough pieces with the same process.
  7. Add water into a vessel and cover it. Let it boil.
  8. After one boil, add prepared logs one by one and boil them for 12-14 minutes on high flame.
  9. Once it boiled completely, remove and place them on a plate and let them cool.
  10. After that, take a log and cut it into 1/2 inch chunks. Repeat this process with the remaining logs.
  11. Save the boiled water and gatte chunks for further use.

For Gravy

  1. In a mixer grinder jar, add chopped tomatoes and green chillies. Blend it to form tomato puree.
  2. Take a non-stick pan, let it heat and add oil to it on low flame. Then add cumin seeds, asafoetida, turmeric powder, coriander powder, Kasuri methi, saute.
  3. Now add tomato puree, red chilli powder and mix until it starts releasing oil. Stir in between.
  4. After that, add whisked curd in intervals and stir continuously.
  5. Now add the boiled water as per requirement and stir continuously. Adjust the consistency accordingly.
  6. Then add gatte chunks, salt, garam masala, coriander leaves, and mix well.
  7. Now cover the savory curry and let it cook for 3-4 minutes on low flame until the gate chunks absorb the gravy.
  8. After 3-4 minutes, turn off the flame.
  9. Serve this sabzi into a bowl.
