Just a few ingredients and matar pulao is ready.

Matar pulao is a simple pulao with an appetizing aroma and mouthwatering taste. And since winter is the season for peas, it is the best time to cook matar pulao or green peas rice.

It can be a quick lunch or even dinner and tastes delicious when paired with raita or curry like veg korma or butter chicken.

  • 1 cup Rice
  • 2 Onion
  • 1/2 cup Green peas
  • 1 tsp Cumin seeds
  • Bay leaves -2
  • 2 Dry red chili
  • 1 Black cardamom
  • 1 tbsp Ghee
  • Salt

Preparation

    1. Start by washing the rice and then soak it in water for 10-15 minutes.
    2. Heat a pressure cooker, and add ghee.
    3. Once the ghee is hot, add cinnamon, green cardamom, black cardamom, and bay leaves.
    4. Fry it for a few seconds on medium flame.
    5. Now, add green peas, mix it properly and fry it for a minute or two on a medium flame. Add soaked rice and fry the rice for 1/2 minute.
    6. Keep stirring it while it is being fried.
    7. Add 1.25 glasses of water and salt, to it and mix it.
    8. Allow it to come to a boil.
    9. Once it starts boiling, cover the pressure cooker with the lid properly and cook it for two whistles on a high flame.
    10. After two whistles, turn off the stove and let the cooker cool down completely.
    11. Gently open the lid and mix it.

Serve a hot bowl of matar pulao with your favorite curry or raita. And garnish it with coriander and mint leaves.
