Are you even Indian if you don’t love pav bhaji? Pav bhaji is a popular Indian street food mostly famous in the streets of Mumbai.

Pav Bhaji is a combination of both healthy and a very amazing dish, the bhaji consists of all the possible vegetables and very amazing spices giving it great flavor and aroma. And the best thing is you can always pair bhaji with roti or rice.

The vegetables that are usually added to pav bhaji are cauliflower, potatoes, carrots, peas, capsicum, and french beans. 

Pav bhaji serves as an amazing snack as well as a very heavy meal. Follow this pav bhaji recipe to make pav bhaji at home.

Ingredients

To boil vegetables 

  • 200 gms Cauliflower florets 
  • Carrot, Peeled, cubes – 1 cup
  • 1 capsicum, chopped 
  • 1 cup Green Peas 
  • Salt to taste 

For Bhaji 

  • 1 tbsp Oil 
  • 100 gms Butter (add gradually) 
  • 1 tsp Cumin Seeds 
  • 1 tbsp Ginger Garlic paste 
  • 2 medium Onions, finely chopped 
  • 4 Large Tomatoes, finely chopped 
  • 3 Medium Potatoes, boiled & peeled 
  • 1 tbsp Kashmiri Red Chili powder 
  • 1 tsp Turmeric Powder 
  • 3 tbsp Pav Bhaji Masala 
  • Salt to taste 
  • lime juice 3 tbsp 
  • Fresh Coriander, chopped

For Pav 

  • 2 tbsp Butter 
  • ½ tsp Pav Bhaji Masala 
  • 6-8 Pavs 

For Serving

  • Onion, finely chopped – 1 Large
  • 1 Lemon, cut into quarters 
  • 1 tbsp Butter

For Boiled Vegetables 

  1. Add cauliflower, carrots, green peas, and capsicum to a pressure cooker. 
  2. Now add water just to cover the vegetables. 
  3. Give 5 whistles. 
  4. Make sure vegetables get mushy.
  5. Add cooked potatoes and mash well. 

For Bhaji 

  1. On a large tawa or kadhai heat oil and butter on a medium flame.
  2. Add onions and saute for a minute or two. 
  3. Now, add ginger-garlic paste and saute till the onion is golden in color. 
  4. Add in tomatoes and cook for almost 3-4 mins while stirring it continuously. 
  5. Next, add a little amount of butter, mix well, and cook for about 3-4 minutes. 
  6. Add potatoes and mash them along with boiled vegetables.
  7. Then, add Kashmiri red chili to the bhaji and mix very well. 
  8. Add water little by little for perfect consistency. 
  9. And then, add turmeric powder and mix properly. 
  10. Add some more butter and mix well.
  11. Next, add pav bhaji masala in two parts, half while cooking and a half when the bhaji is cooked. Add the cooked and mashed vegetables and mix well. 
  12. Add butter and salt, mix well. 
  13. Finally, add some more water and cook for 5-6 minutes. 
  14. Finish with lime juice & chopped fresh coriander leaves. 

For Pav

  1. Heat a tbsp of butter and add a little red chili powder on a Tawa. 
  2. Dab 2 pavs at a time and toast them as desired. 
  3. Repeat till all the pavs are toasted. 

For Serving

  1. Portion out bhaji on a plate and put a dollop of butter on top. 
  2. Place onion and lemon on the side.

 

Garnish with fresh coriander and serve along with pav.
